Choosing self-pay for speech therapy can offer several benefits:
-
It might actually be cheaper. Self-pay may cost less for high deductible plans or out-of-network. Insurance carriers set a negotiated rate for deductible payments. Providers may offer a lower self-pay rate, which is not applied to the deductible. It saves money for those who don't meet their deductible or have few medical expenses.
-
It allows for greater flexibility and personalized treatment plans, as providers are not limited by insurance company guidelines. This can include frequency, and duration of services. Some insurances companies max out at a certain number of sessions.
-
Self-pay may allow faster access to care than those relying on insurance. Self-pay clients do not need to wait for approval before starting services.
No Surprises Act & Good Faith Estimates
As of January 1, 2022, state-licensed or certified health care providers must provide a Good Faith Estimate of healthcare charges to every new and continuing client who is either uninsured or is not planning to submit a claim to their insurance for the healthcare services they seek.
